A truck arrived at night.
They put up a big candy sign.
With a sign, I’m ready to open.
I quit my office job yesterday.
I was hanging on the big candy.
The truck left behind an “elephant-shaped step stool.”
Its three legs, including its trunk, can support the person riding on it.
It fled to the dresser.
“I don’t want to be stepped on again.”
“I see.”
I stood on the dresser and imagined the mountains of my hometown.
As accurately as possible.
A bird came from those imaginary mountains.
We presented the bird with a big candy.
The big candy was just the right size to hold with its wings.
I ate it as if embracing it.
All three of us were together.
We prepared to open.
The doorbell rang.
With the sign up, it wouldn’t be surprising if customers came.
It was a woman in a dress.
The woman began to undress, batting her eyelashes and asking if I wanted to use the bathtub.
“Excuse me, this is a big candy shop. We sell big candy.”
“What, big candy?”
“Yes.”
The woman thought for a while.
She’d already taken off her clothes and looked cold.
“You’re shivering.”
“Okay. The bath is this way.”
Saito gave up and showed her the way.
She had no choice but to bathe with a customer.
The bath was a mist shower.
She looked nice.
The bird came calling.
“Let’s get ready,” the bird said.
The elephant also liked it.
Opening tomorrow.
The three of us worked together.
As preparations progressed, the woman disappeared without a trace.
Soon, the bird returned to the mountain.
The “elephant-shaped platform” was also welcomed.
Saito was left alone.
Preparing for tomorrow’s opening was underway.
Morning had come.
